Coworking at Confluence is having access to the facilities of professional and social office spaces located in the heart of Whanganui. Joining the flow of up to a dozen other business professionals who are working on their own, but in a social and business focused, environment.
Coworking (also written as co-working) is working in a social office space that is open to the general public. It is for people who are seeking a professional office space to work from that is more affordable, social, and inspirational, than renting an office. It is ideal for independent contractors, small businesses, remote workers, entrepreneurs, start-ups, creatives, digital nomads, and other interested locals.
Confluence coworking is dedicated to you achieving your business tasks, so unlike cafes or libraries we have minimal noise and disruptions. You're free to leave your area setup during breaks or lunch, knowing it will be safe and not used by others whilst you're here. Whakapapa River users can setup everything in their own space, just like your own office.
There's a small meeting room available for private calls or client meetings. Plus a well equipped and generous sized kitchen area with one of the most talked about views in Whanganui. Everyone else here will be working on their own businesses, or visiting for a community event, and often interacting with each other on a casual basis in the kitchen or other parts of the space.
Unlike renting or leasing a small office, coworking is about focusing your time and money more effectively. Everything from the cleaning to maintaining the printer is done for you, so when you're here all you will focus on is your work without distraction, for every hour you're here.
Everything is ready and set up for you and your business to start working today. Once you arrive at Confluence, there really are no additional costs in the way of you getting down to business.
Confluence coworking desks are amongst the lowest priced coworking desks available from an independently owned and funded coworking business in New Zealand.
We provide desks and meeting rooms for a wide range of local and national businesses or organisations. Our current coworkers include engineers, educational professionals, instructional designers, filmmakers, government workers, start-up businesses, editors, and copyrighters.
We also regularly support the Whanganui Chamber of Commerce, Whanganui Regional Development agency, and local Restorative Practices group with spaces for meetings and events.
As the popularity of coworking in New Zealand continues to grow and more people discover Confluence, we occasionally have days during a week with more people coming and going, but there's always a quiet space to work in.
If you're considering our Purua Stream desks then it's a good idea to book ahead if you can - it's easy and free using our website link here.
We always appreciate feedback on our services, including our marketing such as this website or our Facebook page. You're welcome to send us any feedback using our email or this form. Once a year we automate a process that asks for feedback from customers who've used our spaces and booked online.
I love working in this space! Friendly, vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, great people, delicious coffee. I always enjoy a quick chat to others using the space and have meet many interesting people in a diverse range of industries.
I got so much work done just being out of the home office for a few hours with no interruptions. Melita and Kevin were so accommodating and everything I needed was available. Great place to work :-)
Confluence is my happy/go to space when I'm in need of a great work environment or facility. Everyone is always so welcoming and helpful and all the facilities I may need are there. You are made to feel like part of it and included rather than just renting a desk space. - Love it!
Confluence, despite being a large space, is deliberately maintained as a smaller, boutique style, coworking space that has a maximum of 10 coworking desks available at any time. We find this is ideal number for a vibrant social space, but not so many as to be noisy or crowded.
The peaceful atmosphere is further enhanced by open spaces, comfy seating, and plenty of potted plants providing greenery all year round. So Confluence still retains a welcoming home from home feeling for everyone who spends time here.
Confluence is a Whanganui business and proud of it. Even our desk deals are names borrowed from the tributaries of the Whanganui River, reflecting the mixing of waters that become the mighty awa. With the mixing of people and business here matching the mixing of waters in the river that becomes the strength of both.
Welcoming visitors and new coworkers
When you are a first time visitor to Confluence one of our hosts will be delighted to show you around the space, explain how equipment works, and make sure you're comfortable and simple things like your computer is connected to the internet and printer.
Ideally this would be the date you note when you buy your coworking desk online, but there are some days when our hosts are unavailable, in which case we will contact you beforehand to confirm a mutually agreeable date for your complimentary welcome.
When you visit you can take your time to look around and experience the spaces. Maybe just come up and casually meet the other coworkers who are here to ensure coworking at Confluence is right for you.
Confluence is hosted and open for visitors Monday to Friday from 9am until 5pm, unless indicated otherwise via our online calendar. Please also use this if you have a specific day in mind, or give us a call or email - see details below.
Placing NZ remote workers at Confluence
Confluence coworking provides pay-as-you-need professional office space that is private enough to be productive, and social enough to connect locally.
Are you an employer of an organisation based outside of Whanganui with remote staff who live locally? If so, did you know Confluence coworking is a cost effective, safe, social, solution to your flexible working practices. More and more NZ employers are recognising that investing in staff, not locations, is the future of working.

Whilst at the same time their employer has peace of mind that they will be working in a professionally maintained office space, that whilst social is also private and quiet enough to not be a distraction to productivity.
