Confluence is relocated in 2021 to a Whanganui heritage building, sometimes known as the Backhouse. We are now closer to the inspirational Awa and part of the revamped Drews Avenue community.
Confluence's address is:
12 - 14 Drews Avenue
Two street doors are available for Confluence. The direct entrance, which is also step-free, is via a modern blue metal door, that is just a few metres down Drews Ave from the Article Coffee corner. This is numbered as 14 Drews Ave. We also have a public door suitable for cinema access which is further down again at 12 Drews Ave, although this has a stepped entrance.
The building was built in 1920's and opened as the largest single building in Whanganui at the time with a trading company. Later it became a manufacturing centre for Backhouse outdoor clothing company, and thus the name Backhouse became known locally.
At the end of the 20th century it became part of the UCOL community building complex that now occupies the entire lower block of Drews Avenue and Taupo Quay. In 2021 a newly formed trust has taken on the Backhouse part of that complex with the aim of bringing together a range of local businesses and community services under one (big) roof. Confluence is proud to be a founding member of this community, and excited to offer more of coworking, cinema, and event services.
You can also find Confluence using Google or Apple Maps by searching for Confluence Whanganui. You can also ask Siri or Alexa for more information about Confluence or Whanganui Cinema's to find us.
We are open to the public from 9am Monday to Friday, until 5pm. For events, workshops or films outside of these times our main entrance doors will be open 30 mins before the advertised start time.
