Marwencol - Thursday 28 March - 18:30pm
Jeff Malmberg's feature documentary debut is a mysterious, charming, and life affirming tale of one persons rebirth after a life threatening event. This film has captivated audiences since its award winning run at Comic Con and the world-wide festival circuit. It has also been the inspiration for the Robert Zemeckis film, Welcome to Marwen, starring Steve Carrel. However unlike its Hollywood screenplay, this is the reality of life, with its everyday adventures of love, loss, and desires, that one American in upstate New York encounters - only in this case every one of the adventures is also played out in a miniature word of dolls and models, painstakingly crafted, posed and then photographed by Mark Hogencamp, whose life this film explores. Mark has created Marwencol, and he is its guardian, so when the art world comes calling it is another battle to be dealt with, and ultimately like everything in Mark's life, the inspiration for a new set of dolls to move into Marwencol.
